I really like the remake, but I have some questions: It seems like there is currently no way to upgrade the cursor? Is there a possibility to add a setting to change the font? Could there be a way to lock the camera?
Quick answer: In progress, no, and yes, in progress.
Long answer: this is the very first beta version of this game. Believe it or not, I already have a click_damage variable in editor that will allow you to do just that. all that's missing is the button! Changing the font would probably not be a good idea because different fonts are different sizes, and it would be a lot of work for little payout. If it really matters to you, I could make a setting with a more normal font, but custom bitmap fonts aren't happening anytime soon. As for locking the camera, that is a great idea! I will definitely add that, thanks so much for the input.
For Mac or Windows? I already have the Mac version (I just haven’t uploaded it yet) but I don’t have a windows computer for testing. I plan on having both in the future but this is just the first beta. I will upload the Mac version later today for you (:
Yes, this game is currently in development. I am proud to say that this game is built on much longer-term architecture, so there is much more room for more content then there was in the original. (Notice the way the camera can move, that was easy to implement in my architecture but would likely be very difficult to do in the original. This feature is in place for adding other, more complicated maps later. This is just one example, there are lots of other features similar to this.)
Great job! As someone who absolutely loved the original Idle Breakout, I'm really happy that someone is finally trying to make a proper remake. The original was great, but because of the lack of content and updates, it got stale after a couple days of playing. I'm currently on level 900+ and really love how you managed to capture the same vibe it had! Other than the balls sometimes getting stuck in walls, which is to be expected, it's really smooth and polished. Hope to see some more updates soon!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it so much! The balls getting stuck in walls is something that I might be able to fix with the introduction of black bricks (a ball getting stuck in a black brick is a problem that I can't ignore) so I may fix it in that update. Winter break from school is now over, so I am going to make significantly less progress now, but when summer comes I should be able to dedicate a lot more time to this project. I really appreciate your encouragement that it feels similar to the original, working on it for so long had me almost wondering if it was even fun (things have a way of not being as fun if you work on it for so long).
